With over 12 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry, Mathew "Mat" Carson, M.S., is a principal consultant and project manager at Environmental Resources Management, Inc. (ERM), specializing in utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, substation, and inter-state transmission line projects. He maintains a deep understanding of the renewable energy development process, including siting, permitting, and environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)/California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Mat is also a subject matter expert in cultural and paleontological resources, having contributed his expertise to renewable energy projects in the Southwest, Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountains, and Great Plains regions of the western U.S. At ERM, he leads multi-disciplinary environmental teams of land use planners, permitting specialists, biologists, wetland delineators, archaeologists, hydrologists, geologists, and civil engineers to successfully navigate energy developers through the complex and ever-evolving federal, state, and local agency review and approval process.
